Alex Aitken,
Labour Councillor for
Kings Norton North

aawebsite.png

Before entering politics, Alex has worked in a number of different fields. He's been a call-centre worker, a shelf-stacker, a self-employed builder, a community organiser, and a business owner.

He was born & bred in Northfield, in a single-parent household, with a mother who was a low paid careworker. He knows, more than most, that the way the economy is run doesn't work in the way it should for most people in our area.

Since being elected in 2018, Alex has always put his community first. That's why he led - and won - the fight to keep the Fairway Day Centre open, and is proud that this vital service remains open for elderly and vulnerable adults.

In the wake of the Tories - and our own Tory MP - voting against extending Free School Meals, Alex joined forces with a number of community groups and activists to set up the Northfield Food Service, which has helped feed hundreds of local children throughout the pandemic.

You're just as likely to see him out in his community, litterpicking, carrying out his monthly shift with the Kings Norton Farmers Market, visiting Cadbury College (where he once studied himself) or volunteering in a foodbank, as you are to see him in the Council House, representing the people of Kings Norton.

In the Council chamber, he has spoken up about the need for more mental health provisions in our city, on ensuring that real action is taken to combat climate change, and to hold this government to account on its track record of cutting Birmingham's funding & services.

This area is important to me.

I grew up round here and still live here - so the issues that affect you, affect me too.
